Gay media takes a close look at Cleveland in advance of Gay Games, and likes what it sees
It got me thinking about next month’s major gathering in Cleveland, when up to 20,000 visitors will descend on Northeast Ohio for the 2014 Gay Games, an event that began (not surprisingly) in San Francisco in 1982.
I worry: Are we up to the task? Is Cleveland gay friendly enough? And what does that even mean in 2014?
“Cleveland doesn’t have to be San Francisco,” said John Tanzella, executive director of the International Gay & Lesbian Travel Association, a Fort Lauderdale, Fla.-based group that connects LGBT travelers to gay-friendly businesses around the world. All it has to be, he said, is safe and welcoming.
